Joining in with God’s mission to bless all nations - by sharing the love of Jesus in word and deed, with Mitcham.

HTC: Every life bearing fruit for Jesus

As a Resourcing Church within the Church of England, HTC is committed to serving and supporting God’s mission beyond Clapham, by seeking to plant and revitalise churches within the Diocese of Southwark. As part of our vision to see ‘every life bearing fruit for Jesus,’ HTC planted St Peter’s Vauxhall in 2019, and before then did a church renewal at All Saints’ Clapham Park in 2017. Now HTC has the opportunity to bless another community south of the River – in Mitcham.

St Mark’s: Serving God’s mission in Mitcham

St Mark’s is a warm-hearted, multi-cultural worshipping community in the heart of Mitcham. It’s buildings are located in key location: opposite a primary school, estate housing blocks, and residential streets. 70,000 people live in Mitcham and yet most know nothing about the love of Jesus for them. We are so grateful that the Bishops of Southwark and of Kingston are keen for HTC to play a part in seeing every life in Mitcham bearing fruit for Jesus.

Since Autumn 2023, one of HTC’s curates Ed Veale has been supporting St Mark’s Church Mitcham on a monthly basis (since their previous vicar retired). Now, St Mark’s - with the support of the Diocese of Southwark - are wishing to appoint Ed as their new minister, as they seek to grow and to reach out to Mitcham with Christ’s love.

BE PART OF IT!

We would love the Lord to raise up some at HTC and beyond to consider partnering in with His work in Mitcham, by joining a group to move to St Mark’s from September 2024. We want to learn from, and serve alongside, the faithful church members already at St. Mark’s, as together, in the power of the Spirit, we hold out the life Jesus offers as He builds His church in Mitcham.

Vision evening

You are warmly invited to our Vision Evening on Tuesday 16 April, 7.30pm for a 7.45 start until 9pm at Trinity House Clapham. Over drinks and desserts, we will share something of the vision for this ministry and how you could explore being a part of the group grafting into St. Mark’s. Ed, along with the Dean of Estates Ministry for the Diocese of Southwark, will share God’s heart from the Bible for revitalising ministry, and we’ll pray together for His leading.

Prayer

As the psalmist writes, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders build in vain.” So it is our privilege to continue to pray in different ways as a church family for this opportunity to serve Christ’s mission in Mitcham:

  • Every Tuesday, part of our weekday HTC Daily zoom prayer meeting 8-8.20am, will be dedicated to praying for Mitcham.

  • The Church Monthly Prayer Meeting in May and June (first Wednesday of the month) will have time set aside to praying for Mitcham.

  • At the Church Weekend Away (28-30 June) we will pray for and commission the group heading off to St. Mark’s.

Visit

Ed will continue to take monthly Sunday services at St Mark’s (10am on 14 April, 19 May, 9 June, 14 July), to which all are welcome.

Launch - September 2024

The licensing of Ed as the Minister of St Mark’s (and Jago as the Priest-in-Charge) will take place at the beginning of September.

THANKS

We’ve been so grateful for all the advice and wisdom from others, including CCX, London City Mission, Revitalise Trust, Church Urban Fund, the Diocese of Southwark’s Estate Ministry.
